Family:  the ones you love, the ones who drive you bonkers

I never really thought about this before.

Jesus partying! And they run out of wine!

I’ve been doing a devo with some friends at YouVersion. Called the Life of Jesus.

(I’m pretty sure I can’t share a clip here.  Just the whole movie. But you can find the devo with little clips each day at their ⬆ site.)

The wedding at Cana, where Jesus did His first public miracle…

I was thinking about Jesus’ mother Mary, and her life.  Did she support Jesus at first?

Then what happened? Something changed.

I know she and his brothers were going to put Jesus away because they thought He was crazy, later.

Remember, he wouldn’t see them and said my mother and my brothers are the ones who believe in me?
Let me look.

I’ll get the exact wording…
…. A crowd was sitting round him, and they told him, ‘Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.’   ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ he asked.  Then he looked at those seated in a circle round him and said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers!  Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.’

Mark 3:20‭-‬35 NIVUK

I get this pain.  Family drama.  Yikes!

People you love can hurt you so much.

Without meaning to.

I’m sure Mary was a good woman, and Jesus ‘ brothers were just being good Jewish sons to their mother.

They must have all loved Jesus.  They grew up together!

I feel this. 💔

Bottom line:

You gotta be who you are before God, and follow your heart, (to coin an overused phrase) even if people you love don’t agree.

It’s so hard being human, isn’t it? With families and complicated feelings?

I’m glad God gets it. 🌻
